25th Edition of World Press Freedom Day in Ghana
May 3rd marks the World Press Freedom Day and this year, in commemoration of its 25th anniversary, Ghana is to host the event for the first time in the African continent.
Tirso Dos Santos, Head of Office and Representative in Ghana, believes the event will boost Ghana’s economy and will serve an opportunity for the local media to bond with other international press.
The rendezvous will take place in the city of Accra bringing together over 500 participants from around the globe. It will remind us of the importance of press freedom, its significance in democratic societies and will honour all media workers that are in danger or suffer because of the practise of their profession.
Yet, you don’t have to travel far from home to celebrate freedom of expression. Many national events will take place elsewhere so check the schedule in your country. It’s always a good excuse to attend art exhibitions or talks with keynote speakers!
